Output Devices
Output devices are the hardware components of a computer that are used to display or produce the results of processed data. After the computer processes input data, the information is sent to output devices so that users can see, hear, or use the results. Output devices convert digital data into a human-readable form such as text, images, sound, or video.
Monitor (VDU)
A monitor, also called a Visual Display Unit (VDU), is the most commonly used output device. It displays text, images, and videos on the screen. Monitors can be CRT, LCD, LED, or OLED types. The quality of a monitor depends on resolution, size, and refresh rate. Monitors are used in homes, offices, schools, and industries.
Printer
A printer is an output device that produces hard copy output on paper. Printers are widely used in offices and educational institutions.
Printers are of two main types:
-
Impact printers (Dot Matrix): They print by striking an ink ribbon on paper.
-
Non-impact printers (Inkjet, Laser): They print without physical contact and produce high-quality output.
Speaker
A speaker is an audio output device that produces sound from the computer. It is used to hear music, voice, alerts, and multimedia content. Speakers are commonly used in classrooms, entertainment systems, and presentations.
Headphones
Headphones are personal audio output devices that allow users to listen to sound privately. They are used in online classes, calls, gaming, and multimedia applications.
Projector
A projector is an output device that displays computer output onto a large screen or wall. It is commonly used in classrooms, seminars, meetings, and conferences for presentations.
Plotter
A plotter is a special output device used to produce large-size drawings such as maps, engineering designs, and architectural plans. Plotters are mainly used in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) applications.
Braille Printer
A Braille printer is an output device used by visually impaired people. It prints output in Braille characters so that blind users can read information through touch.
Braille Display
A Braille display is a soft-copy output device that converts text on the screen into Braille characters. It allows visually impaired users to read computer output line by line.
3D Printer
A 3D printer is an advanced output device that creates three-dimensional physical objects from digital designs. It is used in manufacturing, medical, education, and engineering fields.
LED Indicator
LED indicators are simple output devices that show system status such as power on/off, battery level, or network activity.
